Car accident on I-95 in Florida leaves 1 dead, 1 hurt

On Behalf of | Sep 4, 2014 | Car Accidents |

The Florida Highway Patrol has reported that a two-vehicle crash killed one person and injured another. Florida police shut down all southbound lanes of I-95 to investigate the two-car accident on the evening of Aug. 30. So far, no charges have been filed in association with this case, and thankfully, no one else was injured in the accident.

Reports regarding the specifics of the accident are unclear as of this writing. It has been confirmed that two vehicles, each carrying a single driver, were involved. One of the vehicles rolled as a result of the impact, and both drivers were ejected from their vehicles by the force of the collision. It is not apparent which driver was killed on-site, but one of the two was pronounced dead at the scene by arriving medical personnel.

The other driver was transported to a local hospital with unspecified injuries. The identities of both drivers are being withheld by police, likely in advance of notifying next of kin. Police have not speculated as to whether alcohol or unsafe driving played a role in this crash, but their investigation is ongoing at this time.

If one of the two drivers can be confirmed to have been responsible for this car accident, Florida authorities will proceed in one of two ways. If the responsible driver survived, he or she may face criminal charges in connection with the crash. Moreover, the deceased victim’s family has the right to pursue civil litigation for monetary damages against the other driver, in the form of a wrongful death claim. If the responsible driver perished, the injured driver will still be able to file for personal injury against the other driver’s estate in a civil court, provided evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the deceased driver exists.
