Man injures woman in serious Florida car accident

On Behalf of | Aug 9, 2014 | Car Accidents |

A 38-year-old man apparently caused a serious wreck involving at least six other vehicles on Interstate 98, according to local news reports. The man was arrested by Florida police on the night of Aug. 1 after causing a major car accident that seriously injured a 21-year-old woman. He is currently being treated at a hospital, but charges may be pending.

According to the police report, the man was traveling at least 60 mph when the accident happened. The report details a grisly game of pinball in which the man struck first one car and then another, bouncing back and forth through traffic and generally causing mayhem. Six cars were struck before his vehicle came to rest.

Astoundingly, only a few people were injured in the accident. The major injuries included the driver himself and a 21-year-old woman, who is listed as being in critical condition. The conditions of the other drivers and passengers was not known at the time of this report, but a police investigation is still underway. Witnesses claim the man was speeding, a fact that appears to be backed up by the sheer amount of damage caused. No official charges have yet been filed.

Regardless of whether Florida police choose to file charges, which seems likely in this case, the young woman who was injured in the car accident may choose to file a personal injury lawsuit against him. This suit would be handled outside of any criminal charges, but her civil case would be bolstered by any evidence of wrongdoing uncovered by police. Evidence of negligence will be required if she is to receive compensation for her injuries.
