Fatal car accident in Florida kills 2

On Behalf of | Nov 12, 2014 | Car Accidents |

A wrong-way crash in Alligator Alley has claimed two lives, local news sources have reported. Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed that two people lost their lives on the morning of November 7. Details are still sketchy, but police are continuing to investigate the cause of the car accident.

So far, it appears that one woman was headed west in an eastbound lane of Alligator Alley when the accident occurred. She was struck head-on by an unknown driver traveling the correct direction for the lane. Arriving medical personnel declared both drivers dead on the scene, and a passenger in the second vehicle was airlifted to a local hospital with injuries described as severe.

Police have yet to determine why the woman was driving in the wrong lane at the time. While they have not yet commented publicly on a definitive reason for the crash, they have not ruled out alcohol, unsafe speed or recklessness as possible causes. However, the accident is still under investigation and will likely stay that way until police come to an acceptable answer as to why the tragic accident took place.

Driving in the wrong lane of a road can be damning evidence in and of itself in a car accident case, as Florida residents can agree. However, police will need to determine exactly why the woman was traveling the wrong way in order to assign blame, though obviously there will be no criminal trial, as the woman is now deceased. The family of the other driver, as well as the injured passenger, will be entitled to file wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits against the estate of the deceased driver, as well as any other owners of the vehicle, in a civil court setting.
