Florida Highway Patrol has announced that one person was killed and another injured in a serious car crash on Immokalee Road early in the morning of April 25. Florida authorities responded to the car accident that claimed the life of a 60-year-old woman and sent a 28-year-old pedestrian to the hospital. Charges have not been filed in relation to this case as of this writing.
According to the accident report, the pedestrian was walking along the side of the road when he was struck by the vehicle driven by the 60-year-old woman. Her vehicle then left the road, overturned and struck a tree where it came to rest. Arriving medical personnel rushed her to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead due to her injuries.
The pedestrian was also taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition with non life-threatening injuries. Police have yet to determine what caused the woman to lose control of her vehicle. They have also not yet spoken about whether the man was placing himself in danger by walking where he was on the road. The investigation was still underway as of the last report.
The outcome of this case will depend upon the results of the Florida police investigation. If the woman is proved to have been driving recklessly or was in some other way responsible for the car accident, the injured man may wish to pursue a personal injury suit against her estate using that evidence as leverage. While the man might not have been walking in the safest area, state traffic laws require that drivers take care when operating vehicles near pedestrians.
