Florida car accident kills 1

On Behalf of | Jun 10, 2015 | Car Accidents |

One woman is dead and another man is suffering from critical injuries following a serious car crash on U.S. 301, according to local sources. Florida emergency crews responded to the car accident around 10:30 a.m. on June 1. Although it has been suggested that speed was a factor in the crash, so far no charges have been filed against either driver involved.

Details about the crash are still under investigation as of this report, but it appears the driver of the passenger car may have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hop over a median and broadside a tractor trailer. The 21-year-old male driver was airlifted to a local hospital with critical injuries. A 21-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. A third passenger also suffered serious injuries and is undergoing care.

The driver of the tractor trailer was thankfully unharmed in the crash, and it does not appear he will face charges. Florida Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation, and it appears the driver of the car may have been speeding at the time of the crash. As of right now, they have declined to charge the driver with recklessness.

However, this could change if further evidence supports their initial hypothesis. If it can be proven that unsafe speed was the cause of the car accident, the driver could face serious charges given the fatality and injuries sustained. The injured parties will be entitled under Florida law to file further civil suits against the driver, as will the family of the deceased woman.
