Florida attracts people from all over the country and around the world due to the state’s stunning beaches, high-profile theme parks and other attractions. Unfortunately, what can start out as an exciting and fun family vacation can quickly turn to tragedy if an accident occurs. This appears to be what happened recently to a young girl from another state; fortunately, she seems to be making a miraculous recovery from her very serious injuries suffered in an accident involving a car.
Details regarding accident and serious injuries
The report did not state exactly when the accident occurred, but a 15-year-old girl was with her family and friends on Okaloosa Island for a surprise birthday party. Revelry turned to horror when the young girl was in a crosswalk and was struck by a vehicle traveling at an estimated 40 miles per hour. The vehicle was not identified, but the collision threw the girl some 30 feet. She suffered massive injuries and was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
The Missouri resident suffered many serious injuries, including bone and hip fractures, a laceration of her carotid artery, liver and kidney lacerations, lung bruising and a concussion. She also developed blood clots in her brain that caused a stoke. Doctors indicated there was a 95% chance she would lose all cognitive and speech abilities. However, the teenager has defied all odds and made a miraculous recovery, pulling the intubation tube from her throat and speaking to family members.
Although the girl appears to be recovering from the accident, she and her family still face a long and arduous road ahead. Along with the considerable medical treatment she has already received, she will likely require therapy and ongoing treatments to deal with her considerable injuries. To help obtain the maximum amount of compensation available to them, she and her family will want to work closely with an experienced personal injury attorney in Florida as they consider their options for legal recourse.
