Pedestrian vs. car accident claims 1 life

On Behalf of | May 1, 2022 | Car Accidents |

Florida is known for its sunshine and warm weather most of the year. The state also sees a lot of foot traffic as people enjoy getting out and walking. Unfortunately, the state’s large amount of pedestrians coupled with the amount of vehicle traffic on the roads means that pedestrian versus car accidents are almost inevitable. Such as tragedy occurred recently in Kissimmee and claimed the life of an elderly woman.

Details regarding accident

Around 8:40 a.m., an 87-year-old woman was attempting to cross the road. She was on U.S Route 192 near St. Cloud Village Court when she was struck by a vehicle driven by a 31-year-old.

The elderly woman was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the car that struck her was apparently the one who called police, but authorities could not confirm when the call was made. It was also not mentioned what type of vehicle the individual was driving or whether he or she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The driver stated he or she was attempting to change lanes when the pedestrian was struck. The accident is still under investigation.

Compensation for victim’s family

Through their investigation, authorities may find the driver was acting negligently behind the wheel, either through distraction or some other reason. If the evidence suggests so, the surviving family members of the deceased elderly woman may elect to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver to pursue recovery of monetary damages. To fully understand their rights and options and increase their chances of obtaining a successful outcome, affected parties will want to work closely with an experienced personal injury attorney in Florida.
