3 people killed in fiery crash involving tractor-trailer

On Behalf of | Oct 28, 2022 | Truck Accidents |

Tractor-trailers play a crucial role in supplying Florida residents with the goods and supplies they need every day. However, these massive trucks can be incredibly dangerous for others on the road. Tractor-trailers weigh anywhere from 30,000 pounds to 80,000 pounds when fully loaded. Compare this with the typical weights of passenger vehicles, which are between 3,000 and 6,000 pounds, and it’s easy to see why truck accidents are more likely to be fatal.

Details of a fatal truck accident

Recently in Ocala, a horrific accident along a highly-traveled interstate claimed the lives of three people. The crash happened during the afternoon hours in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75. According to reports, a sedan and a tractor-trailer were both headed south on I-75 when they collided. Both vehicles left the roadway, drove through the center guard rail and crossed into the northbound lanes.

Reports said a pickup truck pulling a trailer and an SUV headed northbound were both hit by the tractor-trailer. Reportedly, the tractor-trailer and the SUV both caught fire. Authorities said the drivers of the SUV, the pickup truck and the tractor-trailer were all killed in the wreck. The driver of the sedan and a passenger in the pickup truck were taken to a local hospital with unspecified injuries.
