Safely navigating crowded and congested city streets

On Behalf of | Nov 11, 2022 | Car Accidents |

Florida is home to some of the most beautiful cities in the country. However, these cities may also be very crowded and dangerous. Driving along city streets can be stressful and overwhelming for even the most experienced drivers. Here are a few ways to stay safe and avoid car accidents when traveling through Florida cities.

Watch for pedestrians and crosswalks

Walking is the main form of transportation for many who live and work in cities. Pedestrians are literally everywhere. When driving through a city, be on the lookout for pedestrians. Also, watch for crosswalks. Pedestrians in crosswalks always have the right of way.

Use the right lane

It is recommended to stay in the right lane when driving through a city. Typically, there are more cautious and slower drivers in the right lane. Also, keeping to one lane limits lane changes in heavy traffic, which can be risky.

Avoid rush hour

Rush hour traffic typically peaks between the hours of 7:00 a.m.to 9:00 a.m., then 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. If possible, avoid driving through cities during these times. Getting caught in rush hour traffic not only increases the time it takes to reach destinations but also increases the odds of being involved in an accident.

Drive defensively

With high volumes of traffic and limited space, drivers sometimes will not have a quick way out should a hazard or emergency arise. Always stay alert and drive defensively on city streets. Accidents happen every day in cities, as the actions of other drivers are completely unpredictable. Those in Florida who suffer injuries in car accidents that are caused by the negligence of another party have the right to contact an attorney and seek damages through a lawsuit.
