Safety campaign launched to combat distracted driving

On Behalf of | Jun 15, 2023 | Car Accidents |

Distracted driving is one of the biggest risks facing motorists in Florida. These distractions come in many forms. From smartphones to navigation systems, drivers can find themselves focusing on devices instead of the road in front of them. Distracted driving accidents seem to be rising every year.

Target Zero details

The state of Florida has seen a recent increase in distracted driving accidents, which has led to traffic officials starting a campaign to help combat distracted driving. State transportation leaders said the campaign, known as Target Zero, will run through the month of June. The initiative will include increased law enforcement efforts as well as multimedia ads with the goal of bringing awareness to the dangers of distracted driving.

Reports from the Florida Department of Transportation indicate that there were over 53,000 crashes last year involving distracted drivers, and nearly 270 of them were fatal. According to a safety administrator with the FDOT, young males from the ages of 22 to 27 made up about 50% of fatal crashes. Officers said motorists can dial *347 to report distracted drivers.

Getting help

Modern society is becoming more and more reliant on technology. Distracted driving has become an unfortunate side-effect of modern technological advancements. However, those in Florida who have suffered injuries or the loss of a loved one in distracted driving accidents should know that they have options available to help them through this tragic experience. By discussing their situation with an experienced personal injury lawyer, victims and families can seek the financial relief that they need and deserve.
