Even though it is clearly dangerous and even reckless, drivers across Florida continue to get behind the wheel while intoxicated. Those who drive under the influence of alcohol not only put their own lives in jeopardy, but they endanger everyone around them. Tragically, thousands of people across the country are injured or killed every year in car accidents caused by drunk drivers.

Deadly crash caused by drunk driver

Recently in Orlando, an alleged drunk driver reportedly caused a deadly crash that killed a father and son who were there for college orientation. The accident happened at the intersection of Lake Underhill Road and Rouse Road near the University of Central Florida. According to police reports, an intoxicated driver ran a red light at the intersection and slammed into the family’s vehicle, causing it to flip over.

Tragically, the father and son were killed. Police said the driver who hit them has been arrested for DUI three times in the last 10 years. For this incident, the driver was charged with two counts of manslaughter, two counts of homicide, DUI and other serious charges.

Legal recourse

Law enforcement agencies across in Florida do a great job educating the public about the dangers of drunk driving as well as keeping drunk drivers off the road. However, there will always be people who choose to break the law and endanger the lives of others. Anyone in Florida who has suffered injuries or the loss of loved ones in car accidents caused by drunk drivers may be entitled to compensation. An experienced litigator could help victims and families pursue recovery of the monetary damages they deserve.
