Car crashes happen all the time and you will likely be involved in at least one during your lifetime. If you get injured, claiming compensation is likely something you will want to consider. Photos can help you with this.
If you have a camera on your phone, that can help you get the images you need. If you are too injured to take the photos yourself, or your phone is smashed, you could ask someone else, such as a passenger or bystander to take the photos and send them to you later.
You want different angles
People used to say that the camera never lies, but this is clearly not true. Not only can people manipulate images, but a thing can look very different when seen from one angle to another. Taking photos from different angles and different distances helps to build a more complete picture.
You should capture the damage
Insurers sometimes claim that an injury occurred after a crash or before it. With a photo that shows the injury as fresh, you have a better chance to dispute this. The same applies to damage to the vehicles involved.
Give context
Close-up photos give the details of the injuries and property damage, but you need to put them in context so investigators can work out why the crash occurred. Was there flood water on the ground that caused the driver to lose control? Were the lights out on that stretch of road that night? Was traffic heavy or light?
Capture useful information
You can also use your phone camera to snap a copy of the other driver’s insurance details, the number plates of other vehicles involved or people who witnessed the crash.
You should ring the police after a crash and they will normally take some photos of their own, but having some extra can do you no harm and could do you a lot of good. Once you have them, you can seek guidance as to how to use them to build your compensation claim.
