Signs that you’re sharing the road with a drunk driver

On Behalf of | Mar 3, 2025 | Car Accidents |

It’s easy to assume that all drivers on the roads are in the right mental and physical spaces to drive, but that’s not always the case. Some people have a few drinks and then decide to drive somewhere. That decision can put others in danger, even if the driver doesn’t realize that they’re impaired.

Anyone who’s on the road should know the signs of an impaired driver. This could give them the chance to get away from that driver; however, it’s not always possible to do so.

Behaviors of an impaired driver

A drunk driver will usually drive erratically. This can include being unable to keep the vehicle in their lane of travel. They may cross the center line or drift between lanes. Sometimes, they may hit the curb or run onto the sidewalk.

Another common sign is that they may stop without reason or speed through traffic signs and signals. In some cases, this is because they have delayed reaction times. Tailgating is also a common behavior for these drivers.

Even if you’re being as safe as possible, you may be struck by a drunk driver. This can cause serious injuries that require urgent medical attention, which can be costly. You may opt to pursue a compensation claim to help offset the financial damages you’re dealing with because of the drunk driving crash. These cases are time-sensitive, so it may behoove you to work with someone who can assist you with this matter.
